Food for Thought is a resource program developed by Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street and so much more. The program provides information to children and families through local child care and head start facilities. The curriculum consists of fun ways to engage children into learning to make healthy eating choices and provide the entire family with the positive benefits of sharing healthy meals.

The program offers great resource materials in a kit format including recipe cards, a Sesame Street video that teaches children the importance of healthy eating, and easy-to-follow information for parents or caregivers.  The information provided for parents is broken down into four parts: The Family Food talk section offers ways for families to talk together about food and any related worries parents and children may have; healthy Foods on a budget provides ideas to help plan, shop and save money while providing essential nutrition; the Healthy choices anytime section offers tips for making healthy choices on the go and foods that are great snacks anytime during the day; and the Making Connections section provides resources for families to obtain local food and nutrition assistance.

Food for Thought is a great way to teach families how to work together, and live stronger, healthier lives.  Nutrition is the first important step in being the best you can be. We hope to reach as many families as possible and provide them the resources that can make a difference in maximizing their potential.
