Objective of Job:
Secure and expand financial and food
support for The Idaho Foodbank through development of a robust major
gifts / planned giving program, overseeing external communications,
food sourcing and purchasing, special events, volunteer engagement,
grant development and direct response marketing. Serve as a key
member of the Foodbank senior management team to move the agency
toward identified board outcomes. The Philanthropy department is
ultimately responsible and accountable for the acquisition of
contributed resources necessary to support the majority of The Idaho
Foodbank’s budgetary, food, and grocery product needs. Through the
provision and management of multiple food and fund development
strategies, creation of strong supportive relationships with
internal and external stakeholders and engagement of Idahoans in the
efforts to eliminate hunger, the Vice President of Philanthropy will
lead the Philanthropy team to achievement of annual and strategic
goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, with
a Master’s degree preferred and a minimum of five to
eight years’ as a senior fundraising professional.
- CFRE Certification
desired
- Proven leadership
abilities to effectively fund raise and generate
necessary support through implementation of a
comprehensive fund development strategy
- Demonstrated
effectiveness and success in corporate and individual
major gifts fundraising.
- Extensive experience
cultivating and stewarding relationships with major
donors and prospects, leading to solicitation of
significant gifts, including deferred, life income, and
estate gifts.
- Experience designing and
overseeing private cultivation and stewardship events in
support of major and planned gift programs.
- Skilled at budget
development and monitoring.
- Outstanding verbal,
writing, editing and computer skills (Microsoft
products) and experience working with Raiser’s Edge or
similar fundraising software required.
- Ability to interact
professionally and credibly with business and foundation
leaders and high net worth individuals.
- Ability to represent the
Foodbank in senior level meetings and to be an effective
ambassador for its mission and programs.
- A skilled manager who is
able to lead, coach, train and mentor the philanthropy
team
- Demonstrated strong
analysis skills, strategic thinking and planning, goal
orientation, motivated, team focused and communication
skills.
- Ability to make
decisions, prioritize, manage multiple tasks and meet
deadlines
- Committed and
enthusiastic about organizational mission of ending
hunger in Idaho.
- Demonstrated delivery of
legendary customer service to all.
- Knowledge of legislation
affecting not-for-profit organizations.
- Experience engaging a
board of directors in major giving.
- Idaho driver’s license
and access to a personal vehicle.
- Demonstrated ability to
work cooperatively with people of diverse interests and
backgrounds
Essential Functions:
Essential Functions:
The Vice President of Philanthropy will
supervise a staff of twelve whose focus is on generating the food,
funds, public engagement and messaging critical to addressing the
mission of The Idaho Foodbank. S/he is responsible for providing the
senior leadership for all philanthropy activities including:
- Establish and implement both an
annual outcome-oriented philanthropy work plan as well as
long-term goals, strategies and activities for delivering on the
Foodbank strategic plan.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit,
steward and expand upon relationships with major individual
donors, foundations and corporations.
- Provide leadership, direction
and management for the Philanthropy team and the organization,
creating a professional environment tied to the values, vision,
mission and strategic outcomes of the Foodbank.
- Identify, track, and deliver on
benchmarks for food and fund generation.
- Produce reports to track
progress against goals and benchmarks to support the case for
food and fund donor engagement and investment.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and
expand the number of major and planned-giving prospects and
donors.
- Work collaboratively on
fundraising throughout the entire agency including with board
members and other volunteers to define priorities and articulate
messages to donors.
- Oversee and assess cultivation
events and opportunities to deepen relationships and enhance
engagement of people within The Idaho Foodbank donor base.
- Create relevant development
tools including materials, correspondence and related copy for
use in print and on-line.
- Work collaboratively to create a
comprehensive communications strategy that supports overall
philanthropy goals designed to advance programs and priorities
of the Foodbank.
- Collaborate with the CEO and
Board of Directors to create and implement a major gifts plan
for The Idaho Foodbank which increases revenues and supports the
strategic direction in accordance with ethical fundraising
principles
- Monitor trends in the state and
region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary;
- Oversee the training, managing,
mentoring, and development of staff, building an outstanding,
high-performing team.
- Responsible for the monitoring
and performance evaluation of staff within the Philanthropy
department in consultation with Human Resources.
- Other duties as assigned by CEO.

Job Qualifications:
- Have a
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in
the area of social services
- Proven
competencies in Microsoft Office products,
including internet
- Have a valid
driver’s license and access to an automobile
with current insurance on the automobile
- Must have
excellent written and verbal communication
skills
- Demonstrated
conflict resolution skills
- Experience in
preparation of newsletters and brochures or
other internal and external documents.
- Must have skills
at facilitation of meetings.
- Experience at
data collection and analysis desired
- Must be strong
independent worker
- Be sensitive to
the needs of low-income people
- Be able to work
as a member of a team
- Have a clean,
neat appearance
AGENCY OUTREACH:
- Working through Agency Support
Services Specialist develop and identify potential agencies in
service area that could benefit from relationship with The Idaho
Foodbank.
- Develop and maintain agency
recruitment/retention program consistent with Foodbank strategic
plan to assure service area wide network of food assistance.
- Implement strategies to assure
equity in access for individuals in need of food assistance
throughout service area.
- Develop and implement a capacity
measurement tool for partner agencies.
AGENCY INTAKE:
- Maintain agency application,
memo of agreement and any other mutual agreements between The
Idaho Foodbank and member agencies assuring compliance with
Foodbank procedures and America’s Second Harvest standards
- Oversee the screening of
prospective agencies
- Assure that initial on-site
visits are conducted for all prospective agencies.
- Assure compliance with all
documentation requirements
- Develop and implement a program
of orientation for new agencies to Foodbank; including ordering
procedures, picking up product, training programs, etc.
- Maintain agency files in
prescribed methods
AGENCY MONITORING:
- Oversee the timely monitoring of
member agencies utilizing approved methods
- Maintain comprehensive agency
files of monitor visits
- Assist agencies in development
and implementation of corrective actions when found to be
operating in violation of Foodbank policy, America’s Second
Harvest operating standards or Internal Revenue Service
guidelines on the handling of donated product.
- Oversee implementation of policy
for member agencies.
AGENCY RETENTION:
- Develop and maintain a monthly
newsletter to member agencies providing helpful information from
various sources, product, schedule or policy changes, and other
pertinent information
- Assist agencies in articulating
the kinds of services and standards they want from The Idaho
Foodbank.
- Assist in the appropriate
Foodbank implementation of member agency driven changes
- Survey agencies to comply with
grants and assure highest levels of customer service.
- Through direct involvement of
member agencies, identify agency training needs and develop
programs to address them
- Foster cooperative relationships
between agencies and The Idaho Foodbank
- Develop and maintain grievance
procedure for member agencies.
- Assist member agencies in
developing and maintaining appropriate food recipient
qualification records
- Implement Knowledge Management
system to assure best practices with partner agencies.
- Develop and implement methods to
identify and reward best practices in service.
DISTRIBUTION:
- Implement strategies for member
agencies to assure equity in access to Foodbank products
throughout service area
- Develop, in conjunction with
other Foodbank staff, methods to assist agencies in meeting
their critical food needs through purchase and donation programs
- Work closely with distribution
services to develop positive relationships and understand the
varied needs of member agencies
- Provide input on policies
related to agency/warehouse safety, distribution, product
transfers, appointment times, etc.
- Assist in review and development
of alternative distribution methods to enhance efficiencies and
product diversity for member agencies.
- Implement procedures to assure
product security including product misuse and agency
representative identification systems
- Implement procedures to address
product misuse; including bartering and selling of donated
product.
- Establish monthly distribution
program using Mobile Pantry or other models to conduct direct
distribution to people in need.
- Assist agencies in the timely
payment of fees
OUTREACH AND ADVOCACY:
- Assure the development and
implementation of a county level gap analysis to create a
thorough understanding of food security issues facing Idahoans
across the state.
- Work with Foodbank staff
members, community leaders and others to create strategies to
assure monthly access to distributed food for food insecure
families and individuals.
- Develop localized lists of food
stamp offices and assure the distribution of materials to food
recipients through various food distribution models.
- Work collaboratively to create
partnerships and strategies that will increase food stamp
participation rates 5% annually.
- Serve as Foodbank representative
to Idaho Interfaith Roundtable Against Hunger, Hunger Relief
Task Force and other groups focused on increasing access to food
for food insecure Idahoans.
- Develop strategies and materials
to create greater awareness of hunger issues in Idaho for
elected officials at all levels.
- Conduct outreach activities
across entire service area to foster understanding of Foodbank,
enhance cooperation between local agencies and improve services
to low income people.
LIAISON:
- Maintain and internally
distribute current list of food distribution sites, including
hours and days of operation, contact person, location, special
circumstances, etc.
- Implement procedures to
terminate Foodbank relationship with inactive agencies.
- Assist agencies in maintaining
the most current resource information possible to assist their
clientele.
- Provide data collection and
analysis to assist in preparation of Foodbank grants.
- Serve as “voice” for agency
needs among staff of Foodbank.
- Maintain list of groups
throughout service area that glean surplus agricultural product.
